My Scrapbooking Beginning
I wanted to scrapbook ever since my oldest son was born, over the first few years of his life I bought a few things that I thought I would need and the supplies began to pile up in my closet. I had many hopes and dreams about what I wanted to do with my scrapbook but never started. Then over the next six years all I did was buy more supplies here and there but never got them all out to start the albums. That was my problem; I wanted to scrapbook but didn’t know what to do or where to start. I had never seen anyone’s albums, taken a workshop or class or looked through any scrapbooking magazines or books. So one day when my neighbor had a workshop, I packed up what I had and went to start scrapbooking.
I soon realized that I was clueless; I didn’t even bring my photos. Boy I go to scrapbook and don’t even take my photos, I felt completely lost. My neighbor had a consultant come to her workshop with lots of great products and again I was clueless because I thought I had everything I needed to start and found out that I didn’t even have half of what I should have to make scrapbooking easy and fun.
So after seeing others albums, seeing what tools I still needed and got inspired I sat down with what I had and got six pages done – while leaving places on the page to put my photos and journaling on when I got home. I felt so excited and ready to go that over the next four months I finished two albums, was current on all three of my boys with the oldest being 7 at the time and also had a current family album.
If you are in the same place that I was in – want to scrapbook, have the supplies or none at all, want to make something that people will love to look through – it’s fine to feel overwhelmed because there are so many supplies, papers, embellishments, adhesives that one can get. Try to find a local class or workshop that you can attend, there are so many others that are in the same place you are at. Go to a craft store with a large scrapbooking section and ask someone to help you get the basics, including a book or magazine to help you start.
Hopefully this will give you some ideas on how to get started in scrapbooking; I will have more details post in the next few days.
